Luke 4:38-41
38. Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon's house. But Simon's wife's mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her.
39. So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.
40. When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.
41. And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.
Glory be to God forever.

Mark 16:2-8
2. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
3. And they said among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?"
4. But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away–for it was very large.
5. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
6. But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
7. But go, tell His disciples–and Peter–that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you."
8. So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Pauline Epistle

Paul, the servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, appointed to the Gospel of God. A reading from the First Epistle of our teacher Paul to the Corinthians. May his blessings be with us. Amen.

1 Corinthians 2:6-16
6. However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
8. which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9. But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."
10. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.
16. For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Catholic Epistle

2 Peter 1:1-8
1. Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2. Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
3. as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4. by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5. But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6. to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7. to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.

Acts 14:8-22
8. And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother's womb, who had never walked.
9. This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed,
10. said with a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!" And he leaped and walked.
11. Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!"
12. And Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.
13. Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, intending to sacrifice with the multitudes.
14. But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out
15. and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,
16. who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways.
17. Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."
18. And with these sayings they could scarcely restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them.
19. Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.
20. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. And the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
21. And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,
22. strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God."
The word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the holy Church of God. Amen.

Synaxarium

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit One God. Amen Day 8th of the Blessed Coptic Month of Baounah. May God begin it in goodness and renew it for us in peace and tranquility, while our sins and iniquities are forgiven through the tender mercies of our Lord, O my fathers and my brethren. Amen.


The Commemoration of the Consecration of the Church of the Virgin Lady known as El-Mahammah

On this day, of the year 91 A.M., is the commemoration of the consecration of the church of the Virgin Lady, the Mother of God. This church is in the city known as El-Mahammah (Mostorod) which means “bath” because of the fountain of water flowing from the spring. This spring the Mother of God had sprung out upon her return from her visit to the land of Egypt. When Joseph went to Egypt as the Angel had said, he went to Upper Egypt. On his way back, he came to El-Mataryah, and then to El-Mahammah. A church was built in that place in the name of the Virgin Lady. May her intercession be with us. Amen.

The Commemoration of St. Tamada and her children, and Armenius and his mother

On this day also, is the commemoration of St. Tamada and her children, and Armenius and his mother. May their intercession be with us. Amen.

The Martyrdom of George (Girgis) the new martyr

This day also marks the martyrdom of George (Girgis), the new martyr. He was an Ishmealite as was his father. He believed in the Lord Christ and became a monk. They seized, and punished him severely. They took him before the Governor El-Zaher, where he confessed his faith in the Lord Christ. The Governor attempted to make him forsake his faith by offering him expensive gifts, but he refused. The Governor ordered to cut his neck off, and he received the crown of martyrdom in the year 113 A.M. (1387 A.D.). May his intercession be with us and Glory be to God forever. Amen.

Luke 5:17-26
17. Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18. Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him.
19. And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus.
20. When He saw their faith, He said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you."
21. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
22. But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, "Why are you reasoning in your hearts?
23. Which is easier, to say, "Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, "Rise up and walk'?
24. But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"–He said to the man who was paralyzed, "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."
25. Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, "We have seen strange things today!"
